My Messages are not syncing with my IPAD. I used to get them months ago but now new messages come to my phone only. How do I get them on both?

I am no longer able to get messages synced on my iPad. This stopped some months ago. I also used to get calls ringing in on the iPad even though it was only WiFi. How do I get them on both?

Hi Kathryn.

Verify that you have text message forwarding turned on your iPhone.

On your iPhone, select Settings / Messages.

Select "text message forwarding." If your iPad is already selected, deselect it then turn it back on. You may receive a code on your iPad that you will need to enter on your iPhone to reactivate it.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, turn iMessage off on your iPhone (in Messages settings) then turn it back on again.

N.B. You need to be on wifi or have cellular data active in order to sign back in using your Apple ID (email account) and password.

When your messages start going to your iPad again, unfortunately, you will only receive new ones. Old messages won't be received on it.

TJ, you need to do the following.

iPad

Sign out of iCloud on your iPad then sign back in using the same email account that you use on your iPhone.

iPhone

Once you are signed into both devices using the same email address, check Messages settings on your iPhone.

Under Send & Receive, ensure that only your phone number is selected.

You should now have the option to enable text message forwarding. Add your iPad. You should receive a code that you must enter (on your iPad, I think) to activate it.

I’m having the same problem: a new iPad Pro on which my Messages are not syncing from iPhone or MacBook Pro. I am definitely signed in with the same Apple ID on all devices, and Handoff is turned on everywhere it can be. I’ve done everything in that Continuity link you posted, and still no luck. How do I force Messages to refresh with all my saved conversations and contacts?

Thank you Diana but when I tried to go through this and realized I had handoffs turned off on my phone. I turned it on and I got the "notes" to sync but still couldn't get messages or contacts to work. I realized that when I go to settings on both the iPad and phone, and select the Apple ID, what is showing at the top with the image is reflecting a different email. The phone shows my gmail.com and the iPad is my icloud.com.

I then select the "name, phone, email on both and both are showing the Apple ID designation under the gmail address. The fact they are different on the previous screen makes me think that is why things are "sharing". Any suggestions?
