Hi
Map My Run
The developer of Map My Run advises that their Apple Watch app does not currently support tracking distance-based workouts via the built-in GPS on Apple Watch Series 3 models. Instead, the paired iPhone must be taken along:
- "To use the Apple Watch app to record any distance-based workout, you'll need to take your iPhone with you, so that the watch can use it's GPS to record the workout."
For further assistance with using Map My Run, I suggest that you consult the developer's support resources and/or submit a support request (you may also wish to submit a feature request):
Built-in Workout app
In order to track your route map without needing to take your iPhone along, you can instead use the built-in Workout app:
In order to ensure that your Apple Watch can use its built-in GPS when recording your workout, first check your settings:
On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services:
- Check that Location Services (the main setting at the top) is turned on.
- In the list of apps beneath, check that Apple Watch Workout is set to While Using.
After completing your workout, once your Apple Watch and iPhone have been brought back within Bluetooth range of each other and have reconnected (automatically), your workout results will be available to view via the companion Activity app on your iPhone, within the Workouts tab.
Subject to GPS reception during your workout, a route map can also be viewed by tapping on the map thumbnail at the bottom of the workout summary.
