Changed apple lD and lost photos on the iPhone

On the site appleid.apple.com I changed my Apple ID from @gmail.com to @icloud.com. Then when I signed in with my new ID on my iPhone I still see old ID. And in the Photos app (I have turn on iCloud Photo Library) I cannot see all pictures and on the bottom of photos I see “uploading items“ for three days without changes. But in the www.icloud.com there is everything. In the settings of my iPhone I try to delete my old ID and set new ID, but it always says “could not update email - your Apple id cannot end in @icloud.com. Choose a different email address.”

For the first issue, i.e. changing your ID from @gmail to @icloud, did you manage to sign out of all devices prior to doing this -- Change your Apple ID - Apple Support.

Is the photo library on the device large? If not, perhaps you can consider temporarily turning off syncing (for iCloud Photos) and turn back on? Make sure iCloud Photos is indeed turned on, the device is plugged in, and you're connected to WiFi. If the library is large, it will take a while to populate to the phone.

Thank you for your response.

At first I created icloud email address because I did not have it before. Then signed out from app store, iMessage and face time on my iPhone and then I could change Apple Id on the site. But I noticed messages on the site in section "REACHABLE AT" - "This is your Apple ID" on my gmail address and "This is an alias of your Apple ID email address" on my icloud address. Is it correctly?
I do not know what is large photo library. On the icloud.com I see 6 512 items. Before I changed my Apple Id I had photo library up to date on my iPhone. On the settings I have iCloud photo library turn on. During last two days I had my iphone plugged in and connected to WiFi but without changes.
