my iphone was stolen, do i need a police report to bypass paying $200 deductible

My iphone 7 was recently stolen and i am attempting to find out what my next step is in regard to insurance and getting another phone under insurance. do i need to file a police report and when doing so will it bypass the $200 deductible? insurance is not through carrier vs apple care
