when i open a word file in my mail and want to print it the standard A4 page size is enlarged so that the contents go onto a second page instead of just on one page. Where can i define the page size ?

This solution works. Thankyou. i don't understand what paper size miy ipad chooses when you don't work via word. Some parts are much larger than others which results in the document not fitting the standard A4 size ?
The preview view can be wonky in my experience too. I'd guess it should be using a "standard" page based on your region or default location settings, but sometimes it clearly is not. So when I print anything that is formatted or produced by a format specifc document I just open it in that (or something that natively reads that file format) and print from that - usually MS Word or Pages for word processing documents, or Numbers or MS Excel for data files.
You will need to actually open it in MS Word for iOS to change paper size. Word is a free app.
