I have a real security concern here. Due to the reduce performance after the ios 9 update I have opted to turn app updates off. the weird thing is that my apps keep on updating. I also went and logged out from the istore, and in this state four of my apps updated themselves last night.
How can this be happening? Why can apps update against my will?
Hi. Are you maybe experiencing app data refresh, not app code updates? Settings > General > Background App Refresh.

All I can guess is that some updates are required because they use a newer encryption key. That has been experiened by users of iOS 11. This doesn't help you when it's coupled with an unwanted change in functionality. It does look like you're able to block most updates, so the ones you get must be special in some way. And, by the way, the apps don't update themselves. iOS updates them according to its own rules, and supposedly accounting for the Background Updates flag.
Try turning off WiFi when charging the iPad. It's a pain, but should block any automatic update.
Maybe someone else can explain what you're experiencing.
This is really getting outrageous, i just checked again and today another app got updated without my consent. This time it was one that I absolutely did not want to have updated to run my drone.
look at the pic, it is a whole new version of the app, downloaded on my absence via wifi while all updates are turned off and even while Im logged out of the istore.
how can this be? I need this to stop immediately, please advise how I can proceed.
H Diana, nope those are real app updates. Just yesterday mi count of apps to be updated reduced by 4 and I can see those same for apps last updated on the first on Jan.
It's an iPad mini, you can't go beyond iOS 9 on this devices.
