Mail stays offline

I can connect to the Internet with the browser. Mail Connection Doctor says Mail able to connect to the Internet and yet both accounts remain offline. Nothing happens when I try to ake all accounts online. Any advise?

I already have done this. In any case, my mail problems were the result of an update. After talking to AppleCare support, who could not get it fixed right away, they told me to restart my computer. I did and the issue went away.
