ITunes helper failed when Diagnostic check run.Cant update music to Ipod.

I have a new PC and have installed ITunes 7.02 on it but cannot transfer any new music onto my Ipod unless I restore it and obviously I dont want to keep doing that. I have run a diagnostic check on the 4 items and it states that Itunes helper has failed. I have looked at the help screen but it appears that I have no IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controller in my Hardware set up. Could this be the problem? I have tried everything for the last 3 hours ie looking at driver updates, microsoft updates and it still hasn't resolved the issue. Any help from an expert would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the results of my check if this is helpful.

iTunes Helper hasn't "failed", it's just not running. It's probably disabled in your system startup (MSCONFIG, startup list). iTunes Helper has nothing to do with the ability to put songs on your iPod, anyway. The IEEE controller is always listed, or lack thereof, because older iPods can be synced using Firewire instead of USB. There isn't anything in that diagnostic readout that says anything at all about what could be causing your issue. Perhaps if you explained a little better what the actual problem is, like what is it that happens if you try to put songs on your iPod?

Your right, Ive managed to get helper working in the diagnostic check. The problem is once I connect the Ipod 60gb to my PC it does not show on I Tunes v 7.02. It shows up in My Computer and it has passed the four items in the diagnostic checks. I have tried the 5 R's and my IPOD is now empty but still it wont connect. Ive reinstalled Itunes several times, even tried older versions still no joy. Ive ran registry check cleared my temp folder as it says etc and am still stuck. I cant delete IPOD_Control folder though, is this a cause?,Someone says I could try this as an option but I keep gettin a corrupt and unreadable error.

If the iPod_Control folder is corrupt and unreadable, that is likely the reason your iPod isn't recognized in iTunes. If you want to try to repair the file system on the iPod without losing all your data (you may still lose some of it), go to start, click Run, and type CMD and hit OK. Then at the DOS prompt, type:
chkdsk e: /r

This is assuming your iPod is drive E:, if it's a different drive letter than use that letter instead. This command will attempt to scan the disk of the iPod for any file system errors and will repair them if it finds them (assuming the damage is repairable). The scan will likely take a while, and may not actually work. After the scan, if your iPod still isn't recognized in iTunes, you can try formatting the iPod. Go into Disk Management (right click My Computer, select Manage, then click Disk Management on the left side), right click the iPod drive, and select format. Because your iPod is larger than 32gb, you'll have to format using the NTFS file system, but the point is more about erasing the corrupt data than repair the disk structure at this point. Try using the "Perform a Quick format" option first, and if that fails then try without the quick format selected. After the format is complete, if you open iTunes it should recognize the iPod and tell you it needs to be restored, and then a restore should be possible.

Trevor, I can't thank you enough for solving my problem. I ran the checkdisk theory via DOS and waited an hour and hey presto I-Tunes now recognizes my Ipod. It took me 7 hours of research and messing and tried everything except what you had suggested and it is now updating my ipod with my music (fingers crossed). Im using I-Tunes version 7.0 at the mo as Im sure 7.02 is bugged to the hilt. As soon as I restore my music I will do the updates when version 7.03 or whatever comes up. Anyway I will leave my PC on overnight and hopefully all will be resolved.
Many Thanks again as my warranty has expired by two weeks and I was begining to smell a conspiracy theory 🙂 .
