I cannot turn off alarm slider without deleting the alarm...why is that?

I m trying to turn off an alarm by using the green slider bar. However when I move the slider the delete button shows up instead. I just want to keep my alarm and turn it off

Tap it. Don’t slide it, even though it displays as a slider and not a button.
