Received messages appearing above sent messages

Hello, I am having issues with my iphone 6s. When I am sending messages on Imessage, the receiver's response appears above the message I just sent in the conversation, which is confusing and annoying. How can I fix this problem? I have the latest IOS version 11.2.1
