Content Caching does not work inside a VM

Running HS as a guest in Vmware also in a Parallels Virtual machine.

Both platforms exhibit the same problem where Content Caching in SysPrefs > Sharing disappears as an available option from the list.

It is also not available in the Server app either.

So, why is CC not available inside VM's?

Also, where's the documentation that explains what the requirements are for CC in the new version?

Mac mini, macOS Sierra (10.12.4), 2012, Server

Really? Have you verified that fact by closely monitoring

all the log files?

I have seen requests from devices sometimes seen, sometimes cached,

sometimes served from cache, sometimes totally ignored, sometimes a download

cached but then never served, sometimes served to one Mac but not others,

rarely work correctly and totally random as to which Macs or iDevices are making

various requests get recognized/served/cached. BTW, all the Macs and iDevices

are set up with the same Apple ID.

And what is even worse, it usually doesn't work with the very large apps and

macOS updates, which is what you really want caching for.

If I had reason to examine log files I would. Once downloaded, macOS updates and other large downloads occur at speeds approximately 10x than my ISP delivers, implying they are being transferred locally and not downloading all over again as in the past. I interpret that as working as designed on all my Macs, exactly as that Support document describes.

Be sure to read all its notes, "best practices" and other requirements.

I'm not using a VM.

Nothing is happening at the moment, but those zero "TotalBytes" numbers become large upon downloading large files. I'm not expecting anything else from CC. It works. If you have reason to believe it's not working, you should probably post your own Discussion.
