Hoping someone can help me out (in utter layman's terms!)
Trying to export some bank statements as pdf's. When I try though it comes up with a box like this. I have confirmed at the bank end though there are no passwords, and on a PC I can export them fine without this, so it seems exclusively a Previews / Mac issue. Can anyone help?

Nope, my MacBook. The bank website has the option to download them as pdf.'s. When you click that to open it in Preview and then hit File > Export pdf. to just save it to your desktop this is when you get the message. There's no format you can save / export it in. Only view or print which is a nightmare as I need to save a lot of statements for work purposes.
Does this occur with Adobe Acrobat Reader?
Does this occur for a different user, e.g., Guest?
Does this occur after starting up in Safe Mode?
Consider the possibility of a third party software conflict. EtreCheck can be used to investigate what is installed.
It sounds as though you're trying to export the PDFs to a storage device that you don't own, and that is password-protected -- e.g., to someone else's hard drive or flash drive, or to a write-protected drive in a public library. Is that possible?
With the document displayed in your browser, choose Print from the File menu. In the Print dialog, click "PDF" in lower left corner and then "Save as PDF." Many websites' "Export PDF" option doesn't work as well as this built-into-the-Mac-OS feature. Does this work for you?
Already tried. they said there's no password on them and it's letting me save them by this method on a laptop with Windows. Just tried something else (an old uni document) and it's doing it too, so does seem to be a Mac issue.
Tried this just now and all of the save options are greyed out as are send via messages & iCloud options. Everything except for 'Save as postscript' is greyed out.
Have also tried this and when you try open you get an error message citing the reason as being to do with it being a pdf. 😟

Yes it was doing it on different user accounts (only have two - myself & guest) Didn't have Acrobat Reader. Have remedied and set as default and I can now save them to desktop etc - hurrah!
Preview is still being mental with pdf.s though for no actual reason! Will investigate tonight if it still does it in safe mode though but at least there's a work around!

Sounds to me like the bank has somehow password protected these files. Is it possible that it is a password you know? Failing that, you could contact the bank.
