Determining gapless playback

I'm having issues with one particular audio book in itunes which is broken up into multiple files.

Whenever I open itunes this particular audio book will spend time "determining gapless playback" and run through all of the 200 odd files that make up part of the audio book.

Why does this constantly happen?

Is there any way to disable this for a particular audio book?
