iPhone 7 Plus locked by Activation Lock, need assurance.

Ok so to begin with, I recently restored my iPhone 7 Plus that I bought a year ago or so, after I restored it, I realized that the 5-7 year old Apple ID password was "incorrect or wrong" after it was fine for the long amount of period up until now. No access to the Apple ID or the original email. (I know, my fault for not updating it as years went on) So the phone got into an Activation Lock, Is this the same as an "iCloud Activation Lock Issue"? Which they can unlock the phone for me if I have proof of purchase?

Either way, I recently called Sprint to see if I could get a copy of proof of purchase, which they said they'll send it to me within 24-48 hours. After I receive it, do I just call support about this specific issue, send them the PoP, and can they unlock the phone for me without having me go to the Apple Store?

Just want to be assured I am not wasting time with this.

Thanks in advance.

As soon as you have the PoP, call Apple Support and explain your case. They will send you a link where you can upload your PoP. After your upload they will go through it with you and send it to the relevant department, which removes the activation lock in usually two working days for you. It’s a pretty straight forward process. As far as I know, that can only be done over the phone and not in store.

Yes, if you have the original sales receipt, then you should be able to get the lock removed. I don't know for certain if this can be handled without your going into the store, however. In my experience, folks who have had this done have had to take the receipt, the device, and a photo ID to a store to get it unlocked. But it's worth a call to Apple to find out.

I'm curious, however, not sure what you mean when you indicate you have no access to the Apple ID? Have you tried logging it into: Apple - My Apple ID to see if you can change the Security Questions?

Cheers,
