error 10004

i'm getting this error no matter what I try.

My video is one piece but the voice over is in several junks.

I'm new to imovie -

1. how do I link the voice over pieces so I only get one?

2. how do I then export that voice over without the video (some forums say can save in quick time - but i can't see that option)

3. how on earth do I get this imovie out of the app into my files so i can share with colleagues.

I need this for work and I already spent 2 nights trying to figure it out. Even my friends who've been using it for a long time don't know what to do.

I'm running on High Sierra and imovie 10.1.8

Hi,

Error 10004 is a rendering error and usually means that there is some corruption in a clip. You can try to isolate the clip and trim out the corruption. Or, as some people have successfully done, trim a couple of frames off of each clip and then render out.

Take a look at this thread, that describes the procedures, and see if anything in there helps you:

imovie not exporting video to file (error 10004)

Try exporting from iMovie selecting the Audio Only option from the share box. That will give you an audio file with the voice overs merged together. You can't merge them together within the iMovie project. You need to share out the audio, and then you can import the shared out file back into your iMovie project if you want.

The way to get your project out of iMovie is to share it out to your desktop as a File. That gives you an independently standing movie that you can share with your colleagues.

When you are trying to find corruption in a clip, you need to expand your time line (use the slider next to the settings button above the time line on the right hand side of your screen), and then use the arrows on the lower right of your keyboard to advance through the clip frame by frame. Look for any flashes, flickers, black frames, and any other signs of corruption, and trim them out.

If it is a really long clip, you can duplicate your project, delete half the clips, and export the remainder. If it exports successfully then you know that the corruption is in the other half. Duplicate your project again, and export half of the other half, and so on, until you get a failed share out to narrow down the segment where the corruption is located. One you have narrowed it down you can do a frame-by-frame of the shorter segment.

Corruptions occur randomly from time to time. Yours might be project related and not appear in a newly created project with the same media, or with other projects. You can try doing an Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy of the media in your project, and Paste it into a newly created project to see if the new project functions properly.

Thanks, Rich. I have successfully exported the audio into one file and reimported it back into imovie.

I watched the whole video and don't know where it could be corrupted. As mentioned: i'm totally new to imovie so I don't know how else I could find out where the video is corrupted.

.....

(in the meantime, as i was able to export the audio, my colleague put together the whole video; but that only helps me with this video; of course, I want to understand what else to do so it all works)
