Apple TV + iPhone remote

I have the latest edition of Apple TV (4k edition) and an iPhone X, everything works great except using my iPhone as a remote to the Apple TV. When I am trying to add the iPhone as remote the Apple TV can't be found and vice versa. What can be wrong?

iPhone X, iOS 11.2.1

Make sure that the router allows connection between devices on the WiFi. High-end routers tend to be set up to let users access the internet only, for security in a business or store environment. Of course, that's not what a home user expects.

Also, make sure support for multicast and mDNS is enabled. This is required for Apple's Bonjour protocol to work. I assume you're not supporting Microsoft Active Directory, since it conflicts with Bonjour.

Thanks for your quick reply!

Using AirPlay is no problem at all it's just using the iPhone as a remote that doesn't work.

Unfortuntely I am not able to enable Bonjour i Meraki when using NAT (you are only able to enable Bonjour when you are using Layer 3 or bridge mode)

Does this mean that there is no fix for me?

Hmmm. Consumer routers implement NAT on the internet connection, while allowing Bonjour on the local LAN. Obviously, you know more about your system than I do, so I cannot help you there.

But you have AirPlay, so apparently Bonjour is working. You can get the free Fing app for iPhone and use it to scan your network. See what Bonjour services it sees from Apple TV (use "more details" to see it). If you see _touch-able._tcp, I believe the Remote app should see it. Are you using the current Apple TV Remote app (black icon), not the older app, now called iTunes Remote?

I have the same issue. My wife and I recently upgraded from 6's to 8 and x respectively. The remote app can't be found unless I unplug the appletv and plug it back in. Airplay always works but would prefer to use the remote app. Extremely frustrated by this as we have young children who lose our remotes. The app is our only option. Any help would be appreciated.
