AirPods with Windows?

It's pretty easy to pair AirPods with Windows 10 Bluetooth. But after a couple of hours of trying, I am still unable to get Windows playback and recording to work at the same time.

The Airpods are pretty cool. I'd like to keep them. Can someone tell me how to get them to work on, say a Skype call, in the next day or two before I take them back to the Apple store.

From the Sound control Playback tab, I can disconnect the AirPods headphone device and then reconnect it. I can then hear the Windows test signal and play music through the AirPods.

I can do the same in the recording tab to the hands-free headset device and it receives voice from the AirPods mike. But then the headphones stop working.

Sound never comes through the Airpods hands-free headset device no matter what I do.

This is frustrating, because when I place a Skype call to someone, I would like to be able to hear them and speak to them at the same time. Doing just one of those things is what you would call a one-sided conversation.

I tried calling Apple support. The first tech I talked to knew less about Airpods than I did. And I know nothing. So I called back and talked to another tech who knew even less than the first. Also, there's no documention on the AirPods except how to pair them with an Apple device. Only by experimenting did I find a setting to control what they do in response to a double-tap.

Thanks, Ckuan.

You may not be aware that full send/receive headsets are commonly used Windows devices. So I should be able to use the AirPods as such.

I cannot know but suspect there is a way in Windows to overcome the peculiarities with the Airbuds. So I am Asking the same question on a Windows forum.

My only beef with Apple is the lack of easily findable documentation on the product released without graining tech support folks and Apple’s silly culture that holds dearly that the only devices in the world are those in its tiny niche.

Please don’t jump on me for being an Apple-hater. I think it’s products are great. I especially love my iPhone 6. It’s a thing of beauty. I just haven’t drunk the Koolaid to believe there are no other great products from competitors.

Well it just products and if it suits your needs. Apple or otherwise.

AirPods are make with Apple eco-systems in mind.

Nothing to do with Koolaid, I was a long time user/developer of Dos/Windows from 1982 - 2009

Even built my own machines. I switched and never look back since.

It actually admirable that Dos/Windows works at all since hardware & software came from all over the place.

Apple has a different approach, they make or design hardware & software themselves and we benefit from it.

99.9% of the time it just work.
