After updating to iOS 11.2, I moved some apps around. I moved some apps out of the dock, and now I can’t get the default apps back into the dock. I hold the app, it wiggles, then drag it into the dock space, but when I let go it returns to where I dragged it from. I just want to return the default apps to the dock.

Fixed it . . evidently it’s all in the touch . . lol . . I was pressing too hard on the app and not patiently waiting for the other apps to reset locations before releasing the app I wanted to move . .whew!

Hi. Actually, the Dock now supports drag/drop, so shaking is not required. You should be able to drag the apps into the Dock, as long as there aren't too many. Be sure you don't drag them to the right-hand end, where the recent apps go.
If it's still a problem, try restarting the iPad. Power off, not just sleep.
