Disable split tunneling with L2TP

Hi all,

I configured my system to connect to our a network via L2TP VPN. Unfortunately it is using "split tunneling" (I know, for security reasons it is recommended, but I will take care of it in another way 😉.

Does anybody knows how to get more configuration options than with the Mac OS wizards?
I would also edit the config files, if I would find it (tried to grep and find through the system).
It also would be great to set different network routes, when the VPN is connected.

Thanks a lot,

Matthias

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking for. You say you want to turn off split tunneling, but then you say you want to 'set different network routes when the VPN is connected', which is the definition of split tunneling...?

Anyway, there are two places you can control this. On the VPN server you should be able to tell it what networks to send over the tunnel (set it to all). On the client side, in Internet Connect, select the VPN connection and select the Connect -> Options menu. Here there's a checkbox that says something like 'Send all traffic over VPN connection'. Set it however you prefer.

Hi Camelot,

thanks a lot...that was quite helpful. I just look at "Edit configuration" and forgot about the menu on top...;)

About the network routes:
I was wrong: split tunneling means that I do not want to have all traffic send into the vpn connection. So I want to turn it off. Thats what I've done thanks to your reply.
Whats still open:
I get an IP like 10.54.226.0/24 when I connect to the VPN. But I also want to route 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24 to the VPN.

Thanks in avance,

Matthias

Hi,

just FYI: I solved the problem, now.
When opening the "Internet Connections" via the VPN connection tray symbol, I found "Connection"-"Options" where the third checkbox says: "Send all traffic through VPN".

When disabled I got my split tunneling, nearly as wanted.
For routing I then set up a routing script that is called when booting and manipulation my routes "automatically".

Thanks for help,

Matthias
