IPhone SE flash override “on” not working

The camera on my new iPhone SE works fine but I have a problem with the Flash: In a light situation (where the Auto flash setting considers there is enough ambient light) I find that I want to lock the flash in the ON position. I do this and expect the flash to operate at all times, even when there is lots of available light. Unfortunately it doesn’t, with the flash failing to operate with ON selected.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for your help, Allen.

In fact I always terminate Apps each time after use (by ‘throwing them upwards’) and every few days I also switch the iPhone off and reboot it.

From what you say, the next IOS software release installation may cure the issue.

This is an intermittant fault so I will live with it for now as the camera works fine and I have my trusty DSLR to take reliable flash photos!

Thank you again.

Hi, John,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you're having some trouble with the flash on your iPhone SE. The camera itself works just fine, and the flash works, too--except it doesn't stay on like you want it to. You have it set to 'On', which should mean it goes off for every picture, regardless of environment light, but that isn't happening. I'm happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I would first recommend force closing all open apps (to make sure nothing is accessing the camera): How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support , then restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support .

If the issue continues, try backing up your iPhone ( How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support ), then reinstalling the iOS software using the "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again" section of If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support (even though the title of the article doesn't match your issue, it's the reinstallation steps that are important--those are always the same).

Cheers!
