why can't i transfer files to my external hard drive Fat32, bigger than 2GB since I upgraded (laughs) to high sierra

FWIW, you can use the Terminal…
1. Open the Terminal from the Utilities Folder
2. Type cp plus a space
3. Drag the file you want to copy into the Terminal window.
4. Drag the volume you want to copy the file to.
5. Hit Return
Wait until it finishes.
If you want to copy a folder, use cp -R plus a space, drag the folder to the Terminal window.

High Sierra broke Fat32, and is applying a 2gb limit. Hoping they fix this ASAP. In the meantime... you can archive your file to a zip file, and then use the free Unarchiver app to extract it to the location you want the file. It *****, but it works.
Because Finder is applying a 2Gb limit instead of a 4Gb one. 😕
