No, you can’t just use your charger. As Giulio stated, you need VGA or HDMI. The resource he provided is what you need to accomplish viewing your screen on a portable display.

Your only other option is to AirPlay to an AppleTV connected to a display (ALSO via VGA or HDMI).

The only way to mirror the iPhone display to a monitor appears to be via cables (as detailed above) or using the Apple TV box (which also requires plugging into the monitor). Not sure on costs but Briansyddall idea regarding one of the "cheapest" iPad's might not be such a bad option especially when compared to what the other two options might add up to (and it's got to be easier to lug around!).
