Attempted apple id access from China

Last night, I received a notification on my phone that somebody was attempting to access my apple ID account from China. I've never been there. I reset my password, and was prompted to reset my apple ID on all of my devices as well. This morning, when I attempted to use my iMac, of course, I was prompted for my new password.

For a while, I seemed to be stuck in a recursive loop, with a prompt for my new apple ID password popping up on my iMac every few seconds, making it difficult to do anything. It was like that until I reset my password on my iMac in System Preferences. I don't know if this was the result of a DDOS attack on iCloud or what. Did anybody else experience this today?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), iMac (20-inch, Early 2008)

The notification may well not have been genuine. Did it address you by name? If it didn't, it's a scam - Apple always addresses messages to the name, not 'Dear customer' or your email address.

Whether a message appears to be genuine or not, never follow links in it - if you want to change your password or check anything, go directly to http://appleid.apple.com. Hopefully that is what you did - if you didn't, I should change your password again. Sign out of iCloud and iTunes on all your devices first.
