Common Internet File System (CIFS) Alert on Mac

I've just received an alert stating: "The service 'Common Internet File System (CIFS)' is starting on your Mac. If you don't change firewall settings, the firewall will block the connection.":

  • I've never seen this message prior to this morning.
  • I believe CIFS is for Windows applications.
  • I thought CIFS was dead; replaced by another protocol (SMB2?).
  • I blocked the connection.

Is this a potential hack?

I have made two (2) significant changes prior to this message:

  1. Yesterday I renewed my Norton subscription based on the latest news about Mac security.
  2. This morning I responded to an email from Ubisoft saying that my account has been blocked due to unusual activity and I need to change my password:
    • The email address looked legit (news@news.ubisoft.com)
    • Header: "Security update regarding your Uplay account - please create a new password"
  3. I changed my password:
    • First, I used the Safari-suggested PW, but when I tried to log back in, it failed.
    • Second, I used one of my non-critical passwords. I have not tried to log in using that one.
  4. Within minutes of the second password reset:
    • I received a confirmation message from Ubisoft of the PW change and the alert message.
    • I logged into Norton Vault to save the new password to the site.

Again, is this a hack attempt? Thanks

Mac mini, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)
