Auto waking up due to Darkwake/Maintenance

Hi Guys,

For some reason, my MacBook Pro 2017 started waking up every 30 seconds, the screen would turn itself on. This resulted a 100% battery drain over night...

After resetting everything possible, nothing worked

Reading the logs, It looks like mDNSResponder created a MaintenanceWake, which waked Darkwake..which resulted a wake up..

Even I set Darwake to 0, this still happen.

The only things I remember changing was turning firewall on, is that a possible cause?

I've turned off all sharing, wifi/bluetooth are off during sleep.

Hi Jiemo!

I understand that your Mac is waking up unexpectedly, and I'm happy to help. Here is an excerpt from a support article on this topic:

If your Mac wakes unexpectedly

Your Mac might wake for these activities:

  • Network activity that uses the Wake on Demand feature. Examples of network activity include iTunes sharing, photo sharing, printer sharing, file sharing, and using Back to My Mac.
  • Enhanced notifications from FaceTime, Messages, and other apps and services.
  • Bluetooth activity. To prevent Bluetooth devices from waking your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth. Click the Advanced Button, then deselect "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer."

If you have a MacBook Pro (2016 or later) or MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017), note that these models are designed to start up when you open their lids or connect them to power.

If your Mac doesn‘t sleep or wake when expected

Cheers!

Thanks for your reply . I suspect it's a hardware issue due to a recent usbC port failure. This exact issue appear even afterbooting in Windows. It seems the underlying hardware is sending wake up signal . probably because of a short circuit in the broken usbC port . I will take it to the AppleStore for a fix.
