Amazon winner pop ups on my iPhone

Eveytime I open my internet on my iPhone 6+ I get this amazon prize winner pop up. I have my phone set to block pop ups on internet, but they come through every single time. It’s annoying and there has to be a way to stop this. Everything was cleared & I made sure my pop up blocking was on. If anyone can help it would be great. Nothing like trying to look something up and having a pop up on your iPhone get in the way.

No one has figured out how to hijack your phone. Someone has hijacked a website you visited. Do the following:

  • Turn on Airplane Mode
  • Go to Settings/Safari and tap Clear History and Website Data
  • double-press the HOME button, find the Safari screen image and swipe it up to close the app
  • Restart your phone
  • Turn Airplane Mode off

This should clear the message. And don't go back to whatever website you were on the first time it happened.

The instructions for clearing history and cookies together with resetting the ad identifier is not a permanent fix. It will, however, address it for the time you are getting the pop-up. If you want a more permanent fix is to turn off javascript but you probably do not want that.

No, you are correct. But next time it comes up try not clicking the "close" button on the ad.

This is not really practical advice apologies with regards to avoiding websites it is now too wide spread. These ads are a syndicated service and impact pretty much all media sites, IBM sites like weather.com through to popular social media outlets. Telling people to avoid what general folk look at on the internet is not a helpful solution. I finally got rid of mine using a blocking type app which can be freely found on the Apple App Store. That aside, I did report with screenshots to the larger websites they had unethical ads up so I think if you have these take a few minutes to also report as then hopefully they can put pressure on these syndicates to clean up their act. Note I tweet at them to make the request very public.

As the owner of 2 iPhones, 2 windows laptops, 1 windows 2 in 1 tablets, 5 kindle fires (some rooted with custom android stock while some are still stock kindle fires), 6 android phones, 3 android tablets, etc I can honestly say that this is NOT just an apple problem!!! It occurs on multiple operating sytems, multiple devices and multiple browsers and there is no clear cut solution that consistently resolves this problem! While just deleting your browsers history and cache doesn't fix this problem it does help in the respect that when you attempt to go to a website your browser will automatically attempt to load speed up your browsing experience by using the saved cache from your most recent visit to that site thus by deleting your browsers cache you are forcing it to go the actual website url you type in. So deleting browser cache and history will help somewhat but there are a few other things I would recommend as well. Check your browser settings, especially your cookies!! If you see that you have enabled cookies, especially 3rd party cookies with no restrictions you are effectively giving every single website, ad, link, etc that you click on the ability to put cookies in your device that can not only track you but also make changes to your system!!! Also, while having settings like preload top hit, suggestions, quick website search, and other browser optimization services enabled your are basically going to be directed to the exact websites/ip addresses of those that you have visited quite frequently - aka you are more likely to be taken to a website which compromised your device already. Last, ALWAYS use https and not http when going to a website as it is more secure. I wish there was a 100% clear cut solution for this problem but the reality is that there are so many different types of security flaws, malware, viruses, etc that are affecting browsers and devices regardless of whether you have an apple product, android, pc, mac, etc. Wish I had a better answer, if anyone does please let me know, but I hope this helps somewhat.
