Console Error

My Macbook Pro 2013 is running slow. I checked the console. It is absolutely littered with a repeating messaqe:

error 13:16:37.642066 -0500 deleted fsctl error: Operation not permitted, using HARDCODED low disk threshold 10737418240 for volume_size: 750418227200

I have googled and apparently I am the only one the world to ever get this message, even if I just search for "Hardcoded low disk threshold". Anyone have any suggestions? the errors are filling up the console every two seconds or so.

Thanks

macbook pro, mac pro, iphone, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

I'm seeing this error in my logs as well and I'm curious what it means.

And no, I won't re-install macOS at first possible error in my logs, I agree with the others that it's such an unhelpful answer.

To digress: These kind of generic support answers is one of the worst things about Apple Support Communities. How many people have spent countless of hours following random standard support advices like "re-install your entire system" and "run EtreCheck" instead of getting actual answers?

Yes, a re-installed macOS might solve the issue, but that's like the last resort, not the first thing you do. And it is not helpful at all for us that just wants to know more about why a certain error message is shown.

Install El Capitan or Later from Scratch

If possible backup your files.

  1. Restart the computer. Immediately after the chime hold down the CommandandRkeys until the Apple logo appears. When the Utility Menu appears:
  2. Select Disk Utility from the Utility Menu and click on Continue button.
  3. When Disk Utility loads select the volume (indented entry, usually Macintosh HD) from the Device list.
  4. Click on the Erase icon in Disk Utility's main window. A panel will drop down.
  5. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  6. Click on the Apply button, then wait for the Done button to activate and click on it.
  7. Quit Disk Utility and return to the Utility Menu.
  8. Select Install OS X and click on the Continue button.

This will install the version of OS X you had installed.

My computer isn't running slowly, but I'm seeing this in my console too and would like to know what it is. I'm not seeing any actual functional errors with my file system, but noticed this message when emptying the trash. I'm seeing this under 10.13.2.

I don't think you should reformat your drive and clean install the OS like Kappy said, since this doesn't seem to be drive corruption related.

I just noticed this is posted under 10.5 Leopard, which is clearly not the right spot for it. Can the OP change the category?

I have this problem on my iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) with a fusion drive, *and* on my macBook Pro with an SSD running APFS. On the MBP, Disk Utility finds errors but is unable to fix them, so I think that I have to re-format there, just haven't had the time yet.

My iMac, however, is not running APFS. I would hope that someone at Apple could look a bit further into this, as a software engineer, this could be an easy problem to solve because there are repeating log entries, it's not a random occurrence. If one had access to the source code, they could find the error message and at least let us know where to look for problems.
