I just got an Canon PIXMA MX475 All-in-one printer and installed it on my iMac running High Sierra 10.13.2. It doesn't seem to matter if I use CUPS 16.10.0.0 or Airprint drivers, but I am unable to Fax from an Application on my iMac. The Printer is seen as a Bonjour Multifunction and the connection is over WiFi.
Manually faxing from the printer works.
The Canon support site provides a driver for this printer that supposedly supports macOS High Sierra. In addition, it identifies using CUPS driver v16.20.0.0

Here's what I did: I downloaded the drivers file (mcpd-mac-mx470-16_20_0_0-ea21_3.dmg) you directed me to. I deleted the Canon MX475 printers from Printers and Scanners and deleted the Canon folder in Library>Printers. Then I restarted my iMac.
I installed the drivers from the file and restarted my iMac.
I created an instance of the "Canon MX470 series" printer in Printers and Scanners using Select Software. There was only 1 Canon option in the list (Canon MX470 series) which I selected.
I restarted my iMac.
However, I still can't Fax.
And when I check the driver version (double click on the printer instance, opening the "Canon MX 470 Series" window, and then click on Settings) the Driver version is still given as 16.10.0.0
I've been able to install the printer on Windows 10 using Parallels once I changed the Network adapter to Bridged Network:Default Adapter. I'll test it next time I need the fax.
The following document from Apple dated 24 October 2017 claims that Driver version 16.10.0.0 should work:
So still no answer to the main question.
I've also been in contact the local Canon technical support and although they didn't know anything, they will contact me if they find out something from their Canon central.
