The required index.xml file is missing.

I'm trying to open a pages file, and I keep getting this message:

The required index.xml file is missing.

What does this mean, and is there any way to get my file to open?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), iOS 10.3.2

Please read carefully.

You are opening a newer .pages file with an older Pages version.

Pages 5 and 6 are the newer versions. Pages '09 refers to the year it was released ie 2009.

When you double click on the file, OSX opens it with the first App it thinks can open it, they all have .pages extensions.

It is trying to open the file with Pages '09 which can not open the newer files.

Do as I said right click open it with the more recent versions of Pages, even amongst the Pages 5 and 6 there are version differences. Open it with the very latest version and it should open.
