How can I sync my aol account on my iMac with my iPhone?

iPhone 7, iOS 11.1

Hi. First, are you using POP3 or IMAP to access the account on the iMac? Check the settings.

Second, you can easily add the account on the phone, in Settings > Accounts & Passwords. But it will use IMAP, which will be confusing if you use POP3 on the computer.

You can only truly sync the devices if you use IMAP on them all. Then, mail read on one device will be read on them all.

If you're having problems with this, please describe the specific problem.

I just purchase an Iphone X and am having the same issue. If I read or delete from the phone it updates on the iMac mail app but it does not go the other way (read and email on the iMac mail app and it does not show read on the iPhone). This is only true with my aol account. the gmail account seems to update if I read the mail from the phone.
