file tag not working

Question

file tag not working

I have tagged files and folders which i can easily search from finder tag sidebar, but this is not working anymore. I am using High Seirra (a frustrating upgrade).

I tried tagging new files, creating new tags etc. but the problem persist; i.e. I can tag but could not search by tag from sidebar.

Can anyone help?

Similar problem.

I tagged many files yesterday with the orange tag.

They are still tagged in finder but don't show in the sidebar when you click on the orange tag.

The other tags changes I made yesterday with other (red and blue) colors show up as expected in the side bar.

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with Tags on your MacBook Pro. I will be happy to look at this with you.

I first recommend restarting your Mac. This article will help, even though it is titled for macOS Sierra: macOS Sierra: Log out, sleep, restart, and shut down - Apple Support

If the issue remains, I recommend trying this in safe mode and a test user. Safe mode will tell us if the issue is related to a startup item or plugins, and sometimes is all that is necessary to correct some problems.

When you boot to safe mode, log in to your account and check if the issue is also occurring in safe mode or not. Use this article for the steps to get into safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

If everything is working properly in safe mode, but then is not working after you restart the Mac, please check the section titled "If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode" for the next troubleshooting steps.

If the issue is also happening in safe mode, then move on to see if this problem occurs in a newly created unmodified test administrator user account on your Mac. A test user will let us know if the issue is isolated to your account, or system wide. Please check this help article: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

After you are done testing, please check the section related to results, titled "If the issue happens in the other account" or "If the issue doesn't happen in the other account".

Same problem here. After updating to High Sierra, the file tags don't "hold." Anytime I make a change in a file and save it, the tag disappears. Super frustrating. This feature is basically unusable now.

I have the same problem. It was working few weeks ago but not anymore. I'll continue my research on that problem.

This is an issue with High Sierra, not with individual Mac machines.
