Why is my screen unresponsive sometimes on horizontal orientation on I Phone X

Sometimes...a lot when playing agame on my I-Phone X in horizontal orientation the buttons I press do not trigger. If I try and approach the button as if it were being used in portrait while still being in horizontal it understands and activates the command. It seems something must be misconfigured. This is on a normal temperature household environment
