Is it possible to use Apple Wallet without Apple Pay?

Hi,

I used to use Apple Wallet to store my hotel bookings, boarding passes, tickets and so on. Now I wanted to add a new boarding pass, and suddenly I see no option to add it. There is no plus sign in Wallet app, I don't see any option to send the boarding pass to Apple Wallet from my Air France app. I am from country, which does not have Apple Pay, so this is the only reason I can find, that might hamper usage of Wallet. But I haven't found any information about it.

So my quetion is - is it possible to use Wallet to store passes, tickets, bookings etc. (not the credit cards) without Apple Pay like in previous years?

Hi,

I have tried to look at it in the guide for iOS11, but to no avail. The screen of my Wallet app just looks different than anywhere on the internet/in the guide.

So I tried to contact Apple Support, and they confirmed, that in order for Wallet app to function properly (even just for tickets, boarding passes etc. without any intent to add credit/debit cards), Apple Pay must be running in the given country (which in mine isn't).

They adviced me, to try to change the location in the settings to UK, where Apple Pay is available. I have tried that and the look of Wallet app changed, suddenly there was the plus sign in the upper right corner, but it pushed me to enter credit/debit card from supported bank first. I was not allowed to add any ticket, boarding pass or store card without adding payment card first. So this workaround doesn't work.

All this makes Wallet app just a piece of garbage on my Phone. So if you used Wallet for your travelling, using your bonuses in stores or accessing concerts in the past and you don't live in country with Apple Pay running, you will have to let Wallet app go, and try something else.

Shame on you Apple. :/

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you're trying to add a boarding pass to the Wallet app, but are not seeing the option where you have in the past. I'm happy to help!

The following article provides information on how to use the Wallet app, including how to add items (like boarding passes): Use Wallet on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support . If you are unable to add an item to Wallet, the article recommends contacting the merchant (in this case, AirFrance) to see if they support Wallet. Even though you have been able to do so in the past, if you still are unable to add the boarding pass following the steps in the article I just shared, I would encourage you to reach out to AirFrance. Their support for Wallet may have changed, or the option to add the boarding pass may have been relocated in the app with an update.

Dear Sterling,

thank you for your reply. I have of course read through the article in your link already. The thing is, that it states, that you can add any pass with the plus sign in the upper right corner in Wallet app. But there is no such sign on my app. And AirFrance app shoulh support Wallet as it is stated in App Store. I also have no Wallet option in my Settings on iPhone. I will probably try to contact Apple support.
