Connecting a Thunderbolt 3 head to a Thunderbolt 2 port?

Hi all, I own a Macbook Pro that has Thunderbolt 2 ports in it. I'm trying to connect a thunderbolt 3 device, so I bought this adapter (Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple). The description says that "As a bidirectional adapter, it can also connect new Thunderbolt 3 devices to a Mac with a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port and macOS Sierra". However, the adapter only has a Thunderbolt 3 head and Thunderbolt 2 port, so how can I "reverse" its direction?

If this adapter will not work, what should I buy to get thunderbolt 3 head to plug into my thunderbolt 2 port?
