FaceTime Audio button causes video call in iOS 11

For some iOS 11 iPhone users pressing the Facetime Audio button starts a FaceTime Video call. This defect has been around since iOS 11 launched and hasn't been fixed by Apple.

There is a workaround to have a FaceTime Audio call just work:

1. Go to the desired contact in the Contacts app who you wish to FaceTime Audio call.

2. When the Contact's card appears DON'T press the FaceTime Audio call icon. Instead, press Call (that's the blue circle with a white handset) and a new screen will appear.

3. In the new screen press FaceTime and a FaceTime Audio call will commence.
