Problems opening .sit file

I'm starting the Hack This Site application challenges, and all of the macOS applications are in the .sit file format. I've downloaded StuffIt Expander, but it crashed when I open the file. I've also tried The Unarchiver, but it tells me 'Unknown data format'. I have deleted StuffIt .plist files in ~/Library/Preferences.

How can I fix this?

MacBook Air, macOS High Sierra (10.13.2)

Yes, but that doesn't solve my problem.

The problem is that you're trying to install outdated software that will not work on your Mac. The solution is to find an antique Mac that will run commensurately ancient software, or find software that will run on your Mac. Your choice.
