How to remove Bitcoinminer.zv

Hello everyone , I have a Bitcoinminer.zv virus or malware on my mac running OS X 10.13.

Bitdefender keep showing me the bitcoin miner

Application.BitCoinMiner.ZV deleted /Users/XXXXXXXXXX/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/WebKitCache/Version 11/Records/327AC55BC4F9E81BFFC2AEB16AC0226FDB171A34/Resource/88919F902457AD274B BA7EAFF648EAC1FB7A5C47-blob

I know people still believe Mac does not have viruses but I can see clearly that there is a problem . When I don't use it I can hear the fan running very loudly and the used ram growing fast. It stops when Bitdefender deletes it.
And after few hours it starts again. I believe it's using some sort of javascript.

I tried using etreCheck, resetting safari and various anti-malware and antivirus but no result and searching a lot on google but no results so far.

Any help please 🙂

I'd be more interested in determining whether that's caused by "Bitdefender" or the other "various anti-malware and antivirus" you've been using. To find out, use Activity Monitor: Use Activity Monitor on your Mac - Apple Support. The CPU and Energy panes will readily identify the cause of demanding processes that will cause your Mac's fan to become audibly objectionable: See how apps affect Mac performance, battery runtime, temperature, and fan activity - Apple Support

Bitcoin mining exploits certainly exist, but they are not a "virus" and "anti-virus" products will never prevent you from installing Mac malware, either intentionally or through deception. You can see for yourself that "Bitdefender" did nothing to prevent you from doing that, nor is it removing the "mining" process—if one is actually present.

I tried using etreCheck, ...

Why not post its results here?

Hello papaaliou,

That is just a file from Safari's cache. It isn't any kind of infection. It is common for anti-virus software to flag harmless files like this, and sometimes even critical system files, as malware.

This might be an actual bitcoin mining Javascript file. But if you are going to sites that host such files, there is little you can to do prevent them. One thing you could do would be to use software that blocks these kinds of Javascript files. I would have thought that such a service is something that a Mac security program would offer.

I suggest installing an ad-blocker extension that protects you from bitcoin mining. I suggest 1Blocker (https://1blocker.com/), available on the Mac App Store.
