What is going on with diskimages-helper with the new upgrade to High Sierra?

I recently upgraded to High Sierra on my new Macbook Pro. I suddenly have a problem with the process "diskimages-helper" created by my account. It consumes 100% CPU time constantly. I have to force quit the process in my activity monitor otherwise my computer doesn't restart at all, it gets stuck and I have to hard reboot

MacBook Pro, iOS 11.2.2

See if this helps:

Repair the Drive for El Capitan or Later

  1. Restart the computer and after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears.
  2. Select Disk Utility and press the Continue button.
  3. Then select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the side list.
  4. Click on the First Aid tab in the toolbar and wait for the Done button to activate. Click on it, then quit Disk Utility.
  5. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Download and install the macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 Combo Update.
