Sounds like you had a temporary hickup with the date/time and some files got updated during that time. How many files are you talking about?

When you say some of your files have the 2040 date, exactly what are you referring to? Is it the created date, the modified date, the opened date, etc.

Assuming it's the modified date, you can always use the "touch" command (after you fix/make sure the date/time is correct), e.g. in a Terminal window:

cd /folder-where-files-are

touch xxx

would change the modify time for the file named "xxx" on the volume/folder "/folder-where-files-are".

Does that help?

Good luck...

ps -- if there are a lot of files, there are other shortcuts to minimize the effort, but won't go into those until finding out how many you need to change...

User uploaded fileThanks for your reply, dot.com. There are just a few files and they are by Date Created. I suppose they may be alterable in info? What can cause the hiccup would be a good thing to know. I tried a disc repair first aid and found that the drive on which they appear needs to be replaced and can't be repaired. That may be a suspect.

There seems to be a bit of inconsistency about using touch to reset the "Date Created" value. It doesn't seem to be able to set both dates (created and modified) to a date in the future but will for a date in the past, but only when date/time is in the past - might set only the "modified" date and not the "created". Try this command (the following might set both the modified and creation date to Jan 13, 2018 at 0808 on the folder named "GossenMaureen Fam" folder - note the use of double quotes is important, otherwise you have to use the \ before the space like GossenMaureen\ Fam if you don't use quotes):

cd /folder-where-bogus_files-folders-are

touch -t 201801130808 "GossenMaureen Fam"

Does that modify the creation date for you as well as the modified? Also you didn't say if the folder has the problem or do all the files in the problem folder also show the bogus dates? Do a "man touch" to see all the details about using the "touch" command...

Basically no real way of determining how the dates got goofed up originally, so can't really comment on that. "Things happen" or something along those lines..

Good luck...
