iMac Pro restarting because of a problem?

iMac Pro intially booted as a Mac Pro backup, then reverted and reinstalled fresh High Sierra because of some compatibility issues, now getting forced restarts with this error code, thank you for any help!

A small update. My iMac Pro has not rebooted after I tried this fix. It usually rebooted when I was exporting big projects from Premiere (media encoder), Davinci Resolve or transcoding clips in Kyno. Now instead of restarting the computer, the export/transcoding hangs (somewhere usually 30-40% per cent into the export) and then the computer is super slow, refreshing actions on the screen every 3 ish seconds. When I try to force quit the export (media encorer, resolve or kyno) the computer freezes and a hard reboot is needed. Then after the reboot, I get the inspiring message that "You shut down your computer because a error". This is so much fun...

Although I have both a Mid-2010 27" iMac 11,3 (without Thunderbolt) and a 2017 21.5" iMac 18,2 with several Thunderbolt external drives daisy chained in tandem, I have only experienced Memory Kernel Panics on the older iMac. (Frequently and for a couple of years.) Unplugging hardware, changing configurations and deleting software does no good, and I have always kept the OS current. It could be an internal problem (I do have the Memory maxed out at 32GB, and the on board storage is two internal SSD's, but all have tested as good several times, and frankly are to expensive to replace just to see if they fix the problem on an older machine. I have for some time leaned towards the idea that it's an inherent bug either in the firmware for the Mainboard or the mainboard hardware itself, but as long as the iMac continues to function I don't mind unplugging it for 14 seconds once a week or so. It's not a "POPO" problem as I never turn the machine off, only put it into sleep mode between uses. And I gave up getting an answer from Apple long before my hair turned grey. My advice - put your power plugs where they are very easy to get to so you don't have to crawl under your table every time you need to reset the memory when you have a Kernel Panic. Works for me.

draken182 - I'm more of the opinion your problem is strictly a memory related issue in it's pure form. Your using very memory intensive software and suffering shutdowns while doing so. I, for one, do not have any of the high end software you are using, and my Panics are occurring at startup. Sure am happy to hear you got yours taken care of though as it sounds like you needed a fix much more than I do!!!

Slight Wrinkle in Random Reboot scenario:

Still running (old) High Sierra v10.13.6 (17G65) on a (late 2017) iMac Pro, 3.2 HGz Intel Xeon W, 1Tb SSD (APFS). Have not yet upgraded to Mohave.

Just back from a 3 week business trip so I'm snowed under and don't have time to post all the details, BUT, the long and short of it is that while away from my iMac Pro for the 3 weeks I had unplugged all of the ports. I don't know why but I stupidly forgot to unplug the power. So, therefore, I had shut down the machine normally, unplugged all the ports, with the exception of the power, to isolate the machine against lightning, power surges, etc.

Upon my return I replugged all of the ports, which include numerous external thunderbolt hard drives, all kinds of USB peripherals, and my LAN connection.

Believe it or not I've not experienced the RR (random reboot) now for many months have no idea whatsoever why not. Now however, I am experiencing what appears to be a slight variation on the RR situation. I don't think my iMac Pro is actually "rebooting" however if left running (which I do 24/7) overnight, the next morning I'm faced with the "Login Screen!" If I select my user icon and enter my password (BTW my login settings are set NOT to reboot upon a power failure, and always to log me in automatically) my desktop appears, oddly with what seem to be all of the apps that had been running from the night before (in other words already running), but instead of in their individual 5 or 6 "spaces" they are all on the first space. Point being they appear to be already running, and I don't believe the machine actually rebooted per se.

It's more like some kind of auto-sleep condition, but I checked my power settings and don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Will post more on this later, but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this "Random Logout?"

All the best,

John

As I had previously unplugged all of my ports (see my prior post above) including external thunderbolt hard drives for 3 weeks while away on a business trip, then replugged them, can't fathom why, but just on a whim considering that I had not replugged the external drives (two thunderbolt dongles) in the same ports they came out of (a 50/50 chance) I switched these two port connections and my iMac Pro lasted overnight now for the first time in about a week!

I'm not convinced yet, as there are other variables I need to consider, but I'll start testing and logging incrementally as I add back other items and peripherals. I doubt what I'm speaking of (the switched ports) could be my Random Restart problem, but who knows! Hey, it's worth a shot!

....followup from a few days ago.

Well, I can't explain it, but it's been several nights now with all kinds of apps running (24/7 as always) including automatic SuperDuper nightly backups, and after having switched the two thunderbolt hard drive dongles I have NOT had any random restarts. Go figure. Could be just an anomaly, but, now that I'm stable again I'm not touching those two USB/Thunderbolt plugs!

Been about two weeks now since I switched back my external hard drives to their original ports with NO restarts.

So, I'm moving on. Just installed Mojave v10.14, up from High Sierra v10.13.6.

First time ever I think I did a major version upgrade without any problems, so we'll see.

It's been awfully quite on this thread recently. Has anyone found or heard of a random restarts solution either from Apple or on their own?

I´ve not had any reboots myself... I haven't exported any big projects from adobe media encoder lately but did some big ones from DaVinci resolve without any issues (both these rebooted my iMac before).

Before this, I unplugged all the cables to do a hardware test in apple diagnostics (external disks, Wacom tablet and more) and after putting everything back in. After that, no reboots...

I have no words.. Still waiting for a reboot in other software.. but for now... nothing...

btw... I´m not able to enter apple diagnostics due to the mac not registering my bluetooth (apple original) keyboard before the log in screen.. and yes... I have tried all the "tricks"..

Having the same issue. iMac Pro (2017), High Sierra 10.13.6, 3 GHz Xeon W 10-core, 64 GB memory (4x16).

I posted before it showed me the entire thread of this conversation. I checked my Energy Saver settings, and I did not have "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" checked.

I've since checked that as well as unchecked Enable Power Nap, and haven't had an issue since. I'll report back if that changes, but the display has powered off a couple of times since then (I have mine set to power off after 1 hour).

I had a persistent restart & frozen screen, sometimes several times a day. I thought I had this problem before connecting a second monitor, Dell 2711 using TB3 to Display. So I left it connected. Then one day out of frustration I decided to disconnected it just in case.

That was weeks ago & I no longer have any problems.

I tested this by reconnecting the Dell and it did the restart.

I am assuming it is the 8 year old Dell monitor but I guess it could be a bad port or cable.

I am looking for a second monitor now?

Nov 4, 2018 5:03 PM in response to ljs10

I can’t speak for the newer models with USB-C ports. But if you are like me with a vintage early 2011 MacBook Pro 15” then absolutely NO second monitor is recommended. Until recently the 2011/2012 15” MacBook Pro was subject to a free replacement program to have the Mainboard with the on-board video chip replaced for free. The on-board video was the problem. It turns out they were prone to self destruct when you used a second monitor with a Thunderbolt 1 connection. Mine did the self destruct routine, but unfortunately the free replacement offer had expired and you could only get a Mainboard for my model from 3rd party suppliers. Very expensive refurbishment! If I were you settle for the current screen.

November build imac pro 10 core, same issue here with bridge os panics on startup. Posted on other threads here too. So far it is hard to get a real consensus as to what is going on other than the wonky T2 and Bridge OS sen sensitivity to just about anything plugged in to your mac and no easy swap out and test. Frustrating indeed.

Dec 15, 2018 8:44 AM in response to nickatnyte_

I have an iMac Pro. 4 months are past since I have purchased it (this week), and now I had the same problem, reported to be caused by that Bridge OS:

caused_by":"macos","macos_system_state":"running","bug_type":"210","os_version":"Bridge OS 3.2 (16P2542)","timestamp":"2018-12-15 16:20:03.41 +0000","incident_id":"3D26DDDE-D594-414F-A223-D99CED9DF4F3"}

The causes can be 2:

1) I installed a Logitech Gaming Mouse (Proteus Spectrum). The driver is compatible with Mojave, they say.

2) I installed Unlox. This software for iOS/macOS allows to login the iMac just with a tap on the iPhone and/or when the iPhone comes close to the Mac.

I uninstalled Unlox and all its components. I will post more in the next days.

iMac Pro restarting because of a problem?
