Depending where you are purchasing that iPad Mini 3, there are no more Apple warranties for this model iPad if something goes wrong with it.
Apple has refurbished 128 GBs 7.9 inch screen iPad Mini 4 models for $329 U.S.D. and are treated like new and carry the same AppleCare warranties.
Apple has refurbished 128 GBs, 9.7 inch screen iPad 5 (2017) models for $359 U.S.D.
Both are eligible for purchasing extended two year AppleCare+.
Both support Split Screen multitasking mode as well as almost all the current features of iOS 10 or 11.

Something to think about.
Yeah - the current Mini 4 only comes with 128 GB. And I'm finding that I can't really find a way to max it out. I've got all my iTunes video downloads stored on it and I can't manage to use it up. As far as books go, I can't think of any e-books that would come close to using several GB. That being said, 16 GB is just way too little. I found that my 32 GB Mini 2 was far more usable than a previous Mini 2 16 GB.
I actually paid $299+tax for my new Mini 4 128 at Best Buy last August. Say whatever you want about Best Buy, but if you're just buying something new in a box where you know exactly what you want, there's not much that can go wrong.
