Homekit settings missing iPhone

Hi,

I'm using the iPhone 8 plus, and doing some home automation stuff with the Home app.

However, when I try to setup remote access, I realize that there's no 'Home' settings in the settings app to "allow remote access"

I also have this problem with my iPad Air (1st generation)

All my devices are running ios11.

I've already toggled the keychain and reset my devices.

Anyone has a solution or encountered anything similar.

Hey Alexm87, thanks for responding!

I'm aware of the solutions, my problem is that I don't have a home hub set up!

I have a 2nd gen Apple TV so I couldn't use that, my solution was to use my iPad air (1st gen) as my home hub since it rarely leaves the house.

To set up my iPad as the home hub I need to access the Homekit setting in the settings menu, and the Homekit settings is missing in the setting menu.

This is my problem. There is no Home settings on my iPad, as seen in the picture below.User uploaded file

Hey josiaheli,

Thanks for reaching out for help in Apple Support Communities. From your post, it looks like you don't have certain settings available for the Home app with your devices that are running the latest software. It also sounds like you've tried a few steps to see if this resolve this issue but with no success. Do you have a home hub set up to work with the Home app?

Also, check out this article below. It offers some great information to make sure this is working as expected.
Automate and remotely access your HomeKit accessories

Allow remote access and edit permissions for users

If you set up a home hub, you can manage remote access and edit permissions for people that you invite to control your home. If you don't have a home hub set up, they can only control your accessories while they're at your home, connected to your home Wi-Fi network, and within range of your HomeKit accessories.

To manage remote access and change permissions for a person, invite the person to control your home. Then follow these steps:

  1. Open Home and tap User uploaded file.
  2. Tap the person that you want to edit permissions for.
  3. Set the following access for your user:
    • Allow Remote Access: Turn on to allow users to control your accessories from any location. Turn off to allow users to only control your accessories while they're at your house.
    • Allow Editing: Turn on to allow them to add and remove accessories, scenes, and other users.

If you want to remove a person, tap User uploaded file, tap the user, then tap Remove Person.

Automate and remotely access your HomeKit accessories

Take care.

Hey josiaheli,

Thanks for clarifying that. If you have already connected to the Internet and on the same Wi-Fi network as your other iOS devices during set up and updated with this the latest iOS, then you're almost there. You'll need to also make sure that you have signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID and be sure that you have two-factor authentication enabled.

You can learn how to enable this with the following link:
Two-factor authentication for Apple ID
