iPhone X disconnects from CarPlay on an integrated Volkswagen Passat audio system (Discover Media Pro)

Ten days ago I bought a new Vokswagen Passat 2.0 TDI Business edition including a Discover Media Pro system to connect mobile phone using CarPlay.

Since the first moment I connected my iPhone X, problems started. The phone, after few minutes, when I received the first phone call disconnected. It happened several times and it is repeating every day.


I'm using only an Apple cable and I tested, without any success, also a new one.

I put in place the following activities, without any result:

  1. I opened CarPlay on iPhone X settings and selected from My Car:"Volkswagen"
    • I disconnected the car
    • I reset CarPlay
  2. I closed all the open apps


Two times I see a message on the phone screen communicating that the device was not supported and it appeared an error code, but I didn't have the chance to write down the error code and the message text. But, after that, there was not disconnection for the whole trip (almost two hours).


Do you have any suggestion?

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having issues with your iPhone and CarPlay on your Volkswagen. You have tried some great steps so far resetting CarPlay and I am more than happy to assist! First, if you have not already done this specific step, check to see if the stereo appears in Settings > General > CarPlay > [vehicle name]. If it does, please remove it, Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and the test to see if there is a difference. Next, rename the iPhone in Settings > General > About > Name and see if there is a difference in the connection.

Hi Brenden!


I followed step by step your suggestions but it didn't work.


When I connected the iPhone X, as the first time, connection dropped out immediately.


I realized later on that if I connect the phone before starting the car, connection is not stable. But if I let bluetooth starting, it seems that the connection becomes stable. I'm not sure about what I'm writing. Probably it is needed a longer trip to confirm it. If you are interested, I will keep you informed.


But if you have other inputs, please share them with me.
