60W A1184 AC Adapter no charge light

I have a 60W A1184 Magsafe AC adapter for my 13 in 2008 Macbook. I don't have a battery for my macbook, so I used that as a compromise. It was working when I plugged it in at my job around 8:30p.m. last night but when I got home and plugged it in around 10:01p.m. it didn't work. I tried other outlets in my house on the adapter, and it still wouldn't activate. I tapped the L style connector to make sure all the prongs aren't sunken in, that wasn't it. But when I jiggle the plug, the charge light flashes green for a few seconds before shutting off.

Is there anyway I can fix this?

One of the three expendable components of the charge circuitry are battery, magsafe charger,

and the DC-in Board. The charge controller circuitry it not part of logic board; so that may be

one of the three component parts to check and replace in actual repair/troubleshooting these.

iFixit has a fair repair guide on how to replace the MagSafe DC-in Board; the owc macsales

company has power adapters (magsafe) for reasonable cost on their site. Not sure on battery.

But all of these are suspect. And then, there's the hard disk drive. Easily replaced, but if you

don't have a backup copy/clone on some other drive, the other path is tedious and may involve

using install DVD media to build up the system on HDD, so you could then go to Apple servers

to get the download of any later Mac OS X past 10.6.8. A clone that can run the Mac, is best.

So, anyway, that's the size of it. Probably worth the effort, if you didn't need the computer now.

A repair project isn't too bad if you have time to tinker; but the production needs of working Mac

aren't satisfied when time is limited and dedicated to specific tasks.

Good luck & happy trails! 🙂

If you had other power options, you could try the instructions in SMC Reset

enter your build model series info, into the OWC site space to see what appears.

OWC had listed older version new-stock replacement batteries, etc and iFixit had

some parts including MagSafe DC-in Board for various vintage MacBook models.

Most of this vintage MacBook are relatively easier to repair & restore than others.

Running it that way usually isn't recommended. Reports are that the processor will be throttled because the battery is typically needed to handle peak current, even when plugged in. Reducing the processor speed is supposed to prevent that from happening, where it would likely shut down immediately. And of course there's the chance that it pulls off.

It's hard to tell what it is if you don't have another computer that can use MagSafe to test it out. I'm not even sure if you live near an Apple Store that they have any way you can test your adapter or MacBook at the store. They might sell new adapters, but I'm guessing you're hesitant to buy one if your computer doesn't work.

yes I need a1181 model adapter how much?

The A1344 is the most recent one and interchangeable with the A1181. It's newer (Level V efficiency rating while my A1182 is Level IV) and should work just fine. The function difference is that it has an L-shaped connector and not a T-shaped one. I got that packaged with my mid-2012 MBP non-Retina, and it works fine with my old MacBook.

Newegg has it new (in bulk packaging) for $30 plus shipping (and maybe tax in California):
