High Sierra Update Kernel Panic Boot

Hey All,

I am experiencing an issue with my early 2011 Macbook Pro. I tried upgrading to High Sierra and the update got stuck and halted. So I made the mistake of turning the Mac book off. Now I am receiving a kernel panic I am hoping to be able to fix without re installing OSX. It boots to a login for me to enter my password then after I enter my password it panics.

I tried repairing the disk partition via booting into macOS from an external HDD with no luck. Below is the kernel panic that I hope someone could decipher and let me know if I can try any other tricks before wiping the drive and restating.

Not enough information can be determined from that report because the kernel panic occurred before any operating system or hardware information could be loaded. That always leads to one of these four broad possibilities:

  • an aftermarket hardware modification (including but not limited to memory, hard disk drive or aftermarket SSD)
  • other externally connected hardware (USB devices, but Bluetooth is a rare possibility)
  • a corrupted macOS installation
  • other hardware failure

Their respective solutions are as follows:

  • revert any user-installed modifications
  • disconnect all external devices other than the minimum required to boot the Mac and log in
  • erase / reinstall / restore (erase the target system using Disk Utility, reinstall macOS, restore User content from a Time Machine backup)
  • have Apple evaluate the Mac for a possible hardware failure: Contact Support
