Scale in object from 0 to 100% and get a bounce/spring effect at end?

Hello,

I'm new to Motion and are trying to pop in a few images from 0 to 100% and want that cartoony bounce/springy effect at the end. Like it scales past 100% to 110% then 90% and finally 100%.

I've tried the Oscillate behavior but can't get it to look smooth and natural.

I hope there's a simple solution rather than manually edit keyframes since I want it to look exactly the same for each object that pops out.

It seems like the most common thing but I can't find any explanation on how to do this (other than manually keyframing)

Does anyone have a nice solution for this? 😕

Regards

Hi

If you have updated to 5.4 and have access to the 'Overshoot' behavior, then I suggest you keyframe the object first, then tack the overshoot parameter on to kick in at the frame where the object reaches 100 scale value..or the next frame after that..

In this case, the yellow circle is keyframed from 0 to 100 over ...(15 frames I think) and the overshoot behavior

commences at as soon as the 100% scale is reached..and the behavior is set for 30 frames.

In this method, you can work with the scale effect and the overshoot bouncy effect independently.

The end value of the overshoot behavior can just stay at 0

You can just set the start value to whatever you want, which will create the initial 'swelling' and then the bouncy part will take over until the object settles to normal. In this pop up city, each item is scaled and bounced this way.

If you have Motion 5.4, there's a new behavior called Overshoot. Add it to your layer > Properties > Transform > Scale parameter.

Overshoot is a little weird. You get a Start Value and an End Value. For the example above, I set the Start Value at -100% (it's additive to the base parameter.) The End Value is left at 0% (because the "base" scale is 100%). Move the playhead where you want the animation to end and type 'o' to set an out point (about 20 frames past the beginning of the animation seems to work nicely). You can fiddle with the Ramp Duration and Cycles to get the look you want. A Ramp Duration of near 1% will "explode" the animation and a duration of 100% will simply zoom without a bounce. (Bounce behavior will depend upon length of duration as well.)

If you don't have Moton 5.4, you can keyframe an Oscillate behavior on the Scale parameter. Set the Phase to about 4.3, the initial Amplitude to about 105% (set a keyframe), the Speed to about 300 and at about frame 15-20 (from the start keyframe) move the Amplitude to 0% (turning off the bounce).

Manually keyframing a convincing bounce is very difficult.
