Text title crashing my Final Cut Pro

I have been having this problem with Final Cut Pro (10.4) for several months. Every time I add a Basic Title or any other text titles the program will crash when I try to edit the text. At one point I removed the background render thinking that might be it — still doing it. I upgraded to an iMac Pro — still doing it.

I've deleted the preferences and even done a complete swipe of Final Cut with a clean install. It is still happening. Does anyone have any insight into this? It seems strange that it is freezing at this very simple point.

I removed any fonts that might have been an issue and it is still doing it. I also deleted my preferences. Final Cut is reacting very similarly to when it was installed on my iMac 2012. The audio plugins are also very slow. I maxed out my iMac Pro in order to avoid this.

Did you migrate your whole system from the older mac to the iMac Pro?

It looks like some software conflict. Also, did you install some antivirus or "cleaner" on your mac?

Try this simple test: make a small-ish partition on your iMac Pro drive, and do a clean install of High Sierra, then install FCP X on that and test. I bet you will see your iMac Pro shine!

I was hoping you wouldn't say that but it makes sense. I'm going to remove some text add ons from Pixel Studio and FCPEffects first. If that doesn't work, i'm taking your route.

I do have an antivirus and cleaner. Is there something I should look for?

You should never install an antivirus or cleaner.

Antivirus do nothing to protect you and cause all sorts of trouble.

Cleaners **** and can wreak havoc on your system, deleting things that should not be deleted.

Uninstalling them is probably not enough, because the damage may already have been done.

I recommend a clean install. Do a full backup and, if you like, install on a separate drive and test.

You are likely to find that the issues do not occur on the clean system.

I'm having the identical problem when trying to add titles and now the system is crashing when I add transitions and fades.

I tried going back to iMovie to do a project while I find a fix for FCP, but that program is crashing on startup using High Sierra.

Will open a ticket with Apple as well. Extremely frustrated with Apple right now.

The fact that both iMovie and FCP X are crashing is a clear indication that something is wrong with YOUR system. Blaming Apple is not going to help you if you don't do your own troubleshooting.

Your problem may or may not be the same as the OP. You did not provide any information about your setup.

You should probably do the usual stuff (delete preferences, restart in Safe Mode, run the application for a while from a different account, possibly do a clean install).

iMovie and FCP X work fine for most users. It is the ones with problems that come here for help, but in order to be helped you have to provide information.

There are definitely issues with Apple and its pro products. We've found a fix but it took quite a while (with no help from Apple support). Firstly, as Luis says a clean macos install is a good starting point.

If you think that is too much, you can start to drill down to find the issue. Delete the preferences and fix disk permissions. We found this program useful. It has a 15 day trial.

Have you installed any third party plugins recently? We you having this issue before?
