What's the difference between a window and a tab iOS?

Very basic -- what's the difference between a window and a tab in iOS? (I have MacBook Pro and can't figure out the advantage of window over tab or what difference it makes). Thank you.

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13)

Think of your browser like it were like a television display. The TV itself is the Safari window and changing channels is like changing tabs to see different content.

When I work these forurms I have one Safari window open but have 18 tabs--each for a different forum area--so I can quickly switch back and forth without waiting for a page to reload.

If you do a web search for "tabbed browsing" you will find many useful articles on the subject.
