Problems with Phone app on iPhone X

On my iPhone X I am having the following issue when making a phone call from the native iPhone phone app.


I am unable to hang up. The red hang up button is visible but does not activate when pressed. I have to wait until the other party hangs up or reset my phone in order to end the call.

I am unable to switch apps when in the phone app. When I swipe up during a phone call, the other running apps are visible but if I try to switch apps the screen goes blank and it is not possible to regain focus i.e. the screen remains blank until the call ends.


I have found similar reported issues with regards to the red hang up button not being visible (the green button is visible instead), but I have not found anyone having the same issues that I am having.


Is there anyone else there with the same issues?

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with your iPhone red end call button. I am happy to check this out with you.


The next time this issue occurs, I recommend forcing the Phone app to close: Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


Then, restart the device: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


If the issues remain after that, I recommend reinstalling the iOS using iTunes. Please make a backup of your data prior to doing this step: You can make a backup in iCloud or iTunes using this article: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch


Once your data is backed up, you can reinstall the iOS using this help article: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch


Please pay close attention when you reach step 4 which says:



When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, let the download finish, then repeat these steps.


Once your iOS is reinstalled, test if the issue is still occurring. Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.
