I trimmed a video on my phone but it still takes up the same space

Hi, I trimmed a 6-7 min video to 30 secs on my iPhone and saved it as 'trim original' so it would be permanently cut.

When I send the video to my Mac via Airdrop or see it through Image Capture, it shows the reduced size (37.4MB) like it should.

However when I go to iPhone Storage > Review Personal Videos, the video size remains the same as it was before being cut (438.2MB). But if I click on it, it shows the shortened video.

I'm adding screenshots to show you how it is now 🙂

So I have two questions about this,

1. How can I make the video size in my iPhone down to how it should be (37.4MB as it says it is in my Macbook)?

2. As it says it's 438.2MB in my phone, does that mean there's a way to revert it to the original long video?

According to what I've searched people say it's impossible to revert 'trim original' cut videos, so I'm super curious what's taking up the space.

I actually cut the video by accident, so I would love to revert it back; but if that's not possible I at least want to have the 400 MB free space back.

Really hoping someone has a clear answer to this! Thanks!

Sorry, can’t answer either of your questions but can confirm your findings. Further more I’ve tried editing down the movie in both Photos and iMovie and got the same result - when looking at iPhone Storage before and after editing no change in size was noticed.

The only way I could get the size to reduce following an edit was by selecting “Save as New Clip” then deleting the original - that then reported the reduced size under iPhone Storage/Photos but funnily enough just above under iCloud Photo Library it was still reporting the pre-edited size!

Not sure what this proves other than to reclaim this “difference” in iPhone space following any edits you have to remove the original (after saving to your Mac), and to get iCloud Photo Library aligned you need to delete both the original and the new clip.
